Disadvantages of Panic disorder medication

Medication for obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder treatment, drug treatment panic disorder

Anxiety and panic disorders cannot be referred as mental illnesses. But they are purely behavioral conditions. This can be confirmed by a psychiatrist or a psychologist. Then what is the reason behind the medications for panic attacks. Do we need medical treatment to change a habit? But there is no specific answer to this. And hence it is a big fix.

Certainly the medications are not a good option. There are very less chances for people to get cured of their panic disorder just by relying on the medication treatment alone. But there are evidences for people who have overcome the disorder through other means.

For instance, if a person has been addicted to valium for some known years, the drug not only worsens the condition but also made the person to get addicted to the drug which becomes tough to overcome later in the recovery. Valium is normally prescribed by doctors who are left with no other option or who did not know what to do. So the drug finally did not help the person in overcoming the fear and anxiety but just added more side effects which the patient needs to worry for. This is the result commonly known from the sufferers who are subject to medication.

From various studies, research and surveys from several doctors, psychologists, and psychiatrists regarding panic disorder, it has been confirmed that panic attack medications are often inappropriate. Panic attacks are not caused by imbalance of the brain but due to some behavioral imbalances like alcohol consumption and smoking.

Drugs are hence very common in the treatments of anxiety and panic disorders, just owing to the ignorance of the doctors. Since they do not know the symptoms, they prescribe some medicine for the satisfaction of the patients. But there are some cases where these drugs have proved to be appropriate and very beneficial for some patients to get cured from the disease. So the prescription of drugs cannot be avoided totally. They can just give short reliefs but in the long run, they will not be effective in reality. Some people are fortunate enough to get no or very few side effects, but for others they become desperate.
But regrettably, panic attack medications are prescribed over a long term, sometimes for the entire life of the patient. So in addition to the panic disorder, these medications can add to the side effects and worsen the condition of the patient even more than recovering the patient from the disorder. So the question is there no other option other than medication arises.

Yes, there are many other ways and home remedies also. The drug free solutions include massage, aromatherapy, exercise, deep breathing, yoga, meditation, self-taking techniques, etc. They can get rid of the severity and frequency of the attacks, if not overcome totally. But by constant practice, it is possible for the person to overcome the disorder by self confidence. But it must be done by consulting a doctor.
