How to Help a Sufferer of Panic Disorder
Panic disorder helping tips, help panic disorder sufferer
This article focuses on how the attitude of people who are around the
sufferers of Panic disorder should be. It is obvious that the sufferers
will not take any steps for their improvement themselves because many
of the sufferers are aware of their disorder and Panic attacks.
It is indeed very painful to watch our loved ones suffer. If not treated
properly at the right time, it can destroy the entire family along with
the sufferer. As the sufferer tends to lose all his patience and anxiety
builds up in him totally, his concentration on work decreases and when
the work is not good enough, he loses his job ultimately.
Loss of the job can further increase the anxiety and panic. They depend
on their family and friends for each and every activity which ultimately
affects them. Besides, the sufferer will stop visiting other people and
avoid talking to them as much as possible. All these lead the people to
say “he is over reacting”.
Hence it is the duty of the family and friends of those sufferers to help
them out of the disorder successfully. Such deeds are never forgotten.
The sufferer is certain to realize one day. The people around can play
a part by following some advice.
1. Do not use the words “you are over reacting”. Saying so will disturb
and upset them. Sometimes it can even worsen the panic attack. Assure
them that it will be all right soon, though it is frightening and horrible
to feel so.
2. When there is a panic attack, help them by getting a wet washer, placing
the washer on their forehead and all around their face.
3. Reassure them that they will be fine as many times as possible. Do
not lose your patience.
4. In case of the sufferer being stubborn in visiting the doctor many
times, patiently convince them to write down each and every symptoms on
a piece of paper. Every pain at every part. Then fix an appointment, consult
the doctor and be firm to ask the doctor to investigate further. There
may some underlying illness which has induced the panic disorder.
5. Make the sufferer aware of the information pertaining to the panic
attacks. Sometimes, when the sufferer is educated of such things, he can
know easily how to face and overcome it.
6. Be stubborn in your decision. Do not yield to their unrealistic decisions.
Do not let them interfere with your plans.
7. Do not be too supportive. They need to help themselves out instead
of relying on someone else for their activities. Helping themselves out
is the only way out.
Make sure that you take time to look into your health as well. Your body
also needs to be cared.
